Accompanied with the industrialization, modernization of the nation, many industrial zones have been established and put into operation. Up to now, in the whole country, there have been over 260 Industrial Zones established with 72 thousand hectares of total natural land area, of which 46 thousand hectares of industrial land area are available for rental. Over 170 Industrial Zones have been put into operation, the rest has been under compensation, site clearance and capital construction stage. Viet Nam’s economic zones have attracted 700 regional and international projects with the total registered investment capitals of USD 53.6 billion and nearly 4,000domestic invested projects with total registered investment capitals of USD33 billion and 330,000 billion dong.

The socio-economic development achievements have also been significantly contributed by 1.6 million labors working directly at Industrial Zones and millions of workers at the industrial complexes. It is estimated that there will be nearly 4 million workers by 2015 and around 6 million ones by 2020, of which around 70 % are from outside of the province, far from their hometown having the housing demand. The estimated number of workers in the industrial zones having the housing demand will be nearly 2.65 million persons by 2015, equivalent to 21.2 million m2 and 4.2million ones by 2012, equivalent to 33..6 million m2 of housing. Facing with the increasingly high reality and demand of housing for labors, this National Seminar on labours’ housing – reality and resolution is really a hot forum with many interesting comments of leadership at all levels from Ministries, Industries of localities and even experienced experts in the architectural and urban construction sector.
